Gummi and Kiddi are brothers in their sixties who live side by side in a secluded valley and are engaged in sheep farming. Their stock is considered one of the best of the country and they are repeatedly rewarded for their rams. The brothers have not spoken in four decades.
One day Kiddi's sheep become infected by scrapie (BSE) and subsequently the authorities decide to put down all the sheep in the valley. This is a great loss for the farmers in the area where sheep farming is the only industry and many of them give up and abandon their lands. Kiddi tries to prevent the cull by using his rifle but Gummi uses his brain.
When winter comes, the brothers are suddenly alone in the valley and are forced to start communicating. Gradually they set their old conflicts aside and unite for the purpose of cultivating a new breed.
